The implementation results and highlights of Higher Education Sprout project in 2020
The
implementation of the first stage of the Higher Education Sprout project laid a
solid foundation for STUST (107-108 years). In 2020, there were significant quantitative
results in teaching innovation and efficiency enhancement, featured R&D and
academia-industry collaboration, higher education accessibility, and university
social responsibility. These implementation results and highlights are
described as follows.
The Achievements of Implementing Teaching Innovation and Elevating Teaching Quality
●Promote multiple teaching innovation
models and enhance learning interests of
students
Promote teaching innovation models such as PBL,cross-school learning, learning by doing, learning outside the classroom, industry-university
co-education, community integration, learning autonomy and so on. With regard
to teaching innovation and efficiency enhancement, 47% faculty successfully
adopted innovative teaching principles. In order to encourage Interaction
between teachers and students in the classroom, NTD 3 million digital currency
"South Taiwan Dollar" issued every year, it can be used on campus and
7-11. In 2020, South Taiwan dollars were issued to 3,430
courses, used by 11,566 students, which effectively
increasing students’ willingness to participate in discussions in class.
●Continue to promote the teaching
assistant system
In2020, the TA
review mechanism has been amended, TA is used to assist in the basic courses of
the lower grades, and assisted teachers to implement A and B courses. Expect TA can effectively help students better learning
course. In 2020, the number of TA is 703.
●Comprehensive classroom optimization
and construction of characteristic practice place
In the 107-109 academic year, NTD 10.38 million was
invested in the construction of 87 classroom interactive environments. In
addition, Luban workshops, similar production-line factories, creative thinking
design workshops, smart financial laboratories and other characteristic
practice sites have been built.
●Improve basic skills of students in Chinese and English
The improvement
rate of students' Chinese reading and writing ability reached 70.15%, and
passed the percentage of English-language graduation qualifications is 90%.
●promoted interdisciplinary learning
In order to increase the talents of students, and to have
more diversified choices of courses, and to cultivate cross-field knowledge
integration or second expertise beyond specialized courses, we had constructed a perfect cross-disciplinarily learning
mechanism. In2020, STUST has also
successfully promoted interdisciplinary learning through the modularization of
courses, resulting in 4,846 students who have studied courses
cross-disciplinarily.
●Development of curriculum innovation for engineering talent cultivation
The training of
talents in the hoops-and-bucket(箍桶) curriculum is to construct curriculum planning through practical topic
orientation ,and the courses emphasize teamwork. Those students
participating in this course cultivation method are significantly better performances
than the general course students in the graduation thematic evaluation.

●Promote innovation and entrepreneurship education
The
school builds an ecological environment for innovation and entrepreneurship, guides
students to create ideas, and develop toward industrial applications. Renovate the comprehensive cultivation space for
entrepreneurship education, link the existing hardware equipment, manpower, the
resources and capacity of department and each center in the school, and provide
a world-class training and guidance environment for domestic new industries. From2017
to 2020, the
number of students enrolled in innovation and entrepreneurship courses
increased from 1,600 to 1,884, an increase of about 18%.
In
2020, STUST’s student won the gold medal in the painting and decorating
category of the National Skills Competition.
The Department of Hospitality handles the pastry exchange activities in conjunction with the "NA-Tai Dollar". The contestants got inspiration from the questionnaire and won the silver medal in the competition
The Achievements of Developing School Features
- Develop "5 + 2
+ 2 + 1" professional features
In the
"5+2+2+1" innovation industry, Biotechnology and Medicine, Asia
Silicon Valley, Smart Machinery, Green Energy, Digital Innovation, and Cultural
Technology six areas have selected as the school’s development focus. In these
fields, a number of patented technologies have been successfully developed, and
a total of 32 pieces of technology transfer worth NTD 8.4 million were obtained
in 2020. Examples are as follows:
(1) Small molecule new drug development
“Chinese Herbal
Medicine Technology R&D Center” has successfully developed new curcumin
derivatives for Alzheimer’s disease, and has also founded a spin-off company”
Merry Life Biomedical Company Ltd.” The company raised NTD 250 million. In 2021,
it will apply for the US new drug development certification.
(2) AIOT technology and application
Successfully
developed the "Falling Torso Image Recognition Technology", which won
the Medical Quality Mark of the Industrial Application Group of the "2020
National Medical Quality Award". Successfully developed a "drug
identification system" , which is expected to be introduced into the
pharmacy department of hospital to improve the efficiency of pharmacy
dispatching personnel's adjustment and verification.
(3) Develop smart cutting and visual calibration machine
In cooperation with
shoe’s machine factory - Yinghui Machinery, which developed commercial
intelligent cutting and visual calibration tool machines. In addition, developed
a vector object expansion and typesetting patented technology, which won the
gold medal of the 2020 Taiwan Innovation Technology Expo Invention Competition.
This technology has been applied to shoe factories in overseas.
- Promote internationalization
In order to expand international perspectives of stustdents, STUST actively promotes students’ internships in overseas. In the 108 academic year, the number of students going to overseas for internship reached 116.
- Promote R&D and academia-industry collaboration initiatives
To develop school featured research programs, STUST stimulated faculty
to organize interdisciplinary R&D teams, and in so doing the sharing of technologies
and resources. To date, 18 R&D centers have been established. Furthermore,
STUST organized and arranged resources from industry partners for utilization
by faculty and students to establish the “Industry-academia Collaborative Joint
R&D centers” on campus. To date, 5 centers have been established.
STUST
has won the ninth consecutive "Industry-University Cooperation Excellent
Unit" by the Chinese Society of Engineers
The student's
creation-"Hando" assistive device, won the 2020 IDEA Gold Award in
the United States, and also won the 16th outstanding technical and
vocational education award.
The Achievements of Making Resources More Public
- Enhancing the admission opportunities of financially disadvantaged
students
In addition to increasing
the admission rate of financially disadvantaged students, STUST subsidizes the costs
of transportation and accommodation of selected students to attend interviews on
campus.
- Establish a financial aid system for students who are disadvantaged
STUST has established learning counseling and
performance tracking for financially disadvantaged students, and has
established a self-learning performance reward mechanism. During the COVID-19
epidemic, an online English learning platform has been added and a book club
has been established to encourage students to improve their self-cultivation
and writing skills through daily reading. In 2020, STUST raised NTD 5.94
million for financially disadvantaged
students
In 2020, STUST was
awarded by the Ministry of Education as a school with excellent performance in
improving the schooling assistance mechanism.
The Achievements of University Social Responsibility
- Shaping the characteristics of the school to promote community care
provision
This was achieved by providing courses and
activities, which utilized departmental expertise to resolve social issues, and
also created impetus for community care provision. In2020, we offers 70 USR
courses to connect local and sustainable development issues, and about 2,100
students participate in community-based learning and professionally introduce
USR action plans.
The three departments
of STUST cooperated to shoot videos and share them on youtube, leading the
community to care about local issues.
- Establish a regional center to share teaching resources
We
share experimental teaching and facilities to neighboring higher vocational
schools, and cooperate with them to cultivate practical talents needed by the
industry. In the 109 academic year, departments of mechanical engineer, department
of business administration , and Marketing & Logistics Management enrolled
11 classes In the future, they will continue to cooperate with the industry in
order to fulfill their social responsibilities.
STUST hold 2020 Chemical Creative Camp to enhance the
learning interest of high school vocational students.
